Urban Typographic Landscapes and Sustainability
Typography plays a significant role in urban environments. It influences how we see and engage with the world. It guides our movements and visually narrates a city’s history. Urban Typographic Landscapes and Sustainability explores ways in which urban typography can increase awareness of and promote sustainable living. Using the medium of poster design, typographic elements from various contexts in the city of Chicago are combined to communicate the value of environmental sustainability. The poster demonstrates the potential of urban typography as a medium for advocacy. The accompanying publication showcases signage and various forms of typographic expression documented throughout downtown Chicago and reflects the notion of eco-consciousness on an urban scale. Sustainability is a powerful call to action for designers, environmentalists, urban planners, and the public that goes beyond a single design project. Urban Typographic Landscapes and Sustainability envisions how language and signage in a city like Chicago can amplify public awareness of and advocacy for sustainable living.
