Stilllife
With technology advancing more and more each day, so does our reliance on its tools. These tools, while important for efficiency, strip away the excess of experimentation. They all but eliminate error. The catalyst for Stilllife was a simple question: What if I did this? I followed my chaotic curiosity into unfamiliar realms and encountered unexpected avenues of discovery. My process led me away from preconceived notions of the defined, in this case, typography. I found myself taking on roles akin to 1950s action painters like Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Franz Kline. Different relationships were established between compositional elements. I became less concerned about results and more interested in how my compositional process might evoke different visual responses. Pursuing the chaotic process of pushing boundaries and considering how juxtaposed elements interact rather than how they might ‘fit’ into a composition expanded my understanding of the possible.
