Family plays a direct role in shaping one’s values. Values passed down within one’s family formalize beliefs and influence how one navigates the world. Personal belongings passed down through the generations provide a connection to one’s heritage. However, many such artifacts are lost or left untouched and forgotten, severing connections to the past. Photo albums, for instance, help tell stories of those who came before us. They enable us to make sense of our identity, values, and beliefs that acquire growing up. Please Handle with Care explores personal belongings and their importance in understanding my family’s heritage. By capturing the essence and values my grandmother instilled in me, the work transforms the past into revived representations of my identity, values, and character.
