Identity Under Authority:
Finding Individuality in Uniformity through Graphic Design and Dress

While uniforms are commonly associated with strict conformity, they offer a compelling canvas for exploring the ways in which individual expression can thrive within constraints. This project explores the intersection of identity, human connectedness, and self-expression through the lens of graphic design and dress. It questions whether uniforms can be more than just garments of conformity, but also act as catalysts for belonging and self-expression.

Personal narratives emerge from in-depth conversations with individuals that have worn uniforms, informing the creation of wearable typography saturated with untold stories. These garments transcend attire, becoming expressions of identity, inviting viewers to engage with the stories woven into the fabric. The exhibition provides a space for these narratives to be visually and tactilely explored. The complementary publication offers a platform for further reflection on the interplay between identity, authority, and connection through the transformative power of design and storytelling.
