HỘI AN: A VISUAL PUZZLE OF TIME
Hội An, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a city shaped by layers of cultural, architectural, and historical influences, which embodies a rich blend of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese architectural influences, yet its identity is increasingly challenged by rapid modernization and mass tourism. This thesis, Hội An: A Visual Puzzle of Time, explores how graphic design can reinterpret Hội An’s architectural heritage in a contemporary visual language that bridges historical preservation and modern design.

Drawing from my background in both architecture and graphic design, this project investigates the town’s patterns, colors, spatial compositions, and materiality to develop a new approach to visual storytelling. By deconstructing and reassembling Hội An’s aesthetic elements through the lens of visual puzzles, this research proposes an innovative way of engaging with cultural heritage.
