Visualizing My Burma: Bridging Heritage Through Design
Burmese culture is one of Southeast Asia's most underrepresented yet vibrant traditions. It is shaped by ethnic diversity, vibrant textiles, nature, and a unique musical heritage. This thesis explores how Graphic Design can act as a bridge to help visualize and preserve Burmese culture, especially for younger generations who may feel disconnected from their roots. Through research on over a hundred ethnic groups, their customs, and artistic expressions, this project looks at the visual language of Burma using typography, imagery, motion, and sound, all filtered through my lens. The goal is to celebrate the cultural identity of Burma and develop a contemporary design approach that captures its strong and timeless spirit.
