Project Adnate
An object’s value is subjective, defined by its ownership and life cycle. This perceived object value can be seen through a lens of function or emotion. Objects that no longer serve their owner functionally, but may still have sentimentality, exist in a grey space. But what happens when we acquire many of these “Passive Memoirs”?
Project Adnate is a system for transforming passive objects into meaningful ones, keeping them out of the wastecycle. Participants in Adnate receive a box to fill with their “Passive Memoirs”; emotional objects that no longer serve a functional purpose. These emotional objects are transformed into functional ones; a notebook, plush, and a stool, reframing the relationships we have with the objects we already own. By applying symmetry, repetition, and balance as a design framework, Adnate tests how these principles can guide the process of transformation effectively- giving new life to objects we’re not quite ready to let go of.
