Digital Romance
When I was a little girl, I dreamed of being a princess. I wore gowns and glass slippers, in hopes that one day, my prince charming would swoop in and change my life. However, as I’ve entered adulthood, prince charming hasn’t arrived, and my views on love and romance have shifted. While I still believe that love is very much alive, it’s clear that the way we experience and express romance has evolved.
Throughout my research, I found that romance is actually difficult to define. Its meaning has developed throughout history, shaped by culture along with the advancements of technology. Today, with the rise of social media, smartphones, and dating apps, our view of love is different than what it once was. These advancements have changed how we connect with others, often causing us to question: ‘Is romance dead?’
However I don’t believe it is. Romance isn’t dead, it's just changed. Maybe what we need now is to have more understanding and adapt to what romance looks like today. To explore this idea further, I’ve engaged in interpersonal conversations and used design as a tool to highlight what I call digital romance.
